About Contest Group

Contest Group, based in Medemblik at the edge of the IJsselmeer, is a third-generation family business of sailing yacht builders. For more than 60 years, we see sailing as a way to determine your own dreams and ambitions. We build, maintain and sell not just high-quality yachts; we do so with the personal input of every owner. This is also reflected in our motto: 'Building dreams together!'.

The Contest Group consists of three dynamic nautical businesses: Contest Yachts, Medemblik Yacht Service and Contest Brokerage.

At Contest Yachts we build award-winning performance-oriented luxury sailing and motor yachts, from 42ft to 85ft, to sail the world's oceans in complete comfort and safety. Our craftsmen at Medemblik Yacht Service carry out all work involved in maintenance, repair, refit or storage of a yacht. The brokers at Contest Brokerage not only help with the mediation of yacht sales and purchases, but also with all formalities concerning inspection, finance, registration, legal completion and delivery.

The Role

As a yacht building fitter at Contest Yachts you work on the technical installation of unique luxury yachts. You do not work on standard products, but on high-quality bespoke yachts where technology, design and craftsmanship come together.

You are involved in installing, connecting and adjusting various technical systems on board. Think of hydraulic systems, heating and cooling systems, navigation and communication systems and drives. In this function you combine work in the field of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Together with your colleagues you ensure that all technical components function perfectly and contribute to the quality that Contest Yachts stands for.

You work from technical drawings and diagrams and translate these into a reliable and professional end result. In doing so, you combine technical insight with practical craftsmanship and an eye for detail.

You work independently on various technical tasks, but are also part of an experienced team working on the construction of beautiful yachts. No two days are the same: every yacht is unique and requires precision, knowledge and commitment.

What We Ask

Do you have a passion for technology and do you enjoy working with both your hands and your head on a special product? We would love to get to know you.

Additionally:

  • You have MBO level knowledge and skills, preferably in the field of mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or a comparable technical education;
  • You have technical insight and interest in both mechanical engineering and electrical engineering installations;
  • You work with precision, independently and in a structured manner;
  • You are reliable, motivated and eager to learn;
  • Experience in yacht building is a plus, but definitely not a requirement. Do you have a strong technical foundation and the motivation to further learn the trade? Then we are happy to invest in your development with the right guidance and, where necessary, appropriate training.

What We Offer

At Contest Yachts you work together with experienced craftsmen on a unique Dutch quality product. You get the space to deploy your technical knowledge and talent and to further develop yourself within a committed family business.

Additionally, we offer:

  • A salary that fits your knowledge and experience. For the position of yacht building fitter, the gross monthly salary for a full-time contract (40 hours) is between €3,120.71 and €3,649.22. If you have extensive experience and qualify for the position of senior fitter, the gross monthly salary is between €3,286.73 and €3,838.75.
  • A full-time contract is our preference, but fewer hours are possible by arrangement;
  • Flexible working hours: you start by arrangement between 07:00 and 08:30 and your working day ends between 16:00 and 17:00;
  • Flexibility works both ways with us. Do you need to leave early? No problem. We are happy to work with you. Conversely, we appreciate it if you are willing to work a little longer during busy periods when necessary. Of course, always by arrangement;
  • 25 holiday days based on a full-time contract (40 hours), pro-rata for a part-time contract;
  • 8% holiday allowance;
  • A travel expense allowance of €0.21 per kilometre;
  • A pension scheme where the pension premium is equally divided between employer and employee (50/50);
  • A close-knit team with committed colleagues;
  • Pleasant company parties and an informal working atmosphere: there is hard work, but there is also plenty of room for socialising and a good dose of humour;
  • Opportunities to further develop yourself and grow;
  • A work environment in which your ideas, initiative and craftsmanship are valued;
  • A fun tradition: with every boat sold we celebrate the success together with an apple slice.
