Welcome to Wajer
At Wajer, the relationship doesn't end after a yacht delivery. On the contrary. With Wajer Care we guarantee our owners the ultimate 'without a worry' experience. Worldwide, our service organisation has nine hubs and a dedicated team of over 130 specialists. We now have approximately 80 yachts in Miami and a growing fleet in The Hamptons and Connecticut.
As Captain USA, you are the face of Wajer for our American owners. You deliver top service on the water and ensure that the yachts are always in impeccable condition. This requires maritime craftsmanship, a sharp eye for detail and an tireless focus on hospitality.
What you'll do
As Captain USA, you are responsible for the complete experience on board. You sail independently in challenging and busy areas. Think of the waters around Florida, the coastline of Connecticut and New York, and longer crossings to the Bahamas. These are not simple waters. You navigate through tidal waters and along sandbanks that are not always on the map. No day is the same: one day you sail with owners and their guests, the next you ensure that the yachts are looked after to perfection. You prepare every trip down to the finest detail. You handle inventory management and catering. You ensure that the owner's favourite snacks and drinks are chilled. You check the safety equipment and ensure that the yacht shines both inside and out. During the voyage, you provide invisible but perfect service. In addition to sailing with owners, you also conduct test drives for our Sales team. You let potential buyers experience the unique sailing characteristics of a Wajer. You also prepare yachts for transport by road or water.
A typical day
You start with the daily briefing, where you review the day with the team. Then you drive to the first boat on your fleet. You check the yachts on your list in detail: you inspect the systems, perform minor maintenance and ensure everything shines inside and out. Between boats, there's sometimes a fifteen-minute or half-hour drive and sometimes everything is on one dock. After lunch you head out on the water. The afternoon you sail with owners and their guests, or you conduct a test drive for the Sales team. In the evening you dock, tidy up and prepare the boat for the next day. The next day is about sailing from early morning until late evening, and the day after that you're off. Each captain manages their own part of the fleet. No two weeks are the same.
Your playing field
You work in a dual season setup. This means that in the winter months you work in bustling Miami and in the summer the operation expands northwards towards Connecticut and New York. You are part of Wajer Care USA. You report directly to the Operations Manager and the Area Manager. The permanent team in the region consists of one Operations Manager and four Captains. During peak times you work with freelance captains. You are supported in your daily work by the Business Support department and a full local technical team. Together you ensure that the promise of 'without a worry' is fulfilled anew every day.
What you bring
You are naturally independent and customer-focused. You understand what it takes to deliver service at the highest level. You keep your head cool in unexpected situations, whether it's changing weather or a last-minute change in schedule. You have a hands-on mentality. Thoroughly cleaning the deck and performing minor maintenance are just as much part of your job as navigation itself. You are socially skilled and communicate easily with owners, colleagues and local suppliers.
Furthermore, you have:
- Minimum two years of demonstrable experience as a Captain
- Small boat licence I and II
- An RYA Powerboat Level II certificate
- Fluent command of English, both spoken and written
- A Yachtmaster certification is a strong plus
- Experience with night sailing is a strong plus. If you don't have that yet, we'll help you develop it
What you can expect
Working at Wajer means joining a rapidly growing family business. We employ over 400 people worldwide. In this role you get the unique opportunity to directly contribute to our American expansion.
In addition, we offer you:
- A contract according to the 218 working days regulation
- A salary between €2,870 to €3,500 gross per month (CAO Metalektro)
