The Candidate Specification
We are looking for an experienced Engineer to take on the sole engineering role on a busy private and charter yacht. The crew of nine is very close-knit, and the owners treat them as an extension of their own family. They need someone who will slot into that culture and is genuinely happy to be part of the wider team.
The owners absolutely love the boat. They are very friendly, hands-on, and regular visitors to the engine room. Standards are high, and the crew are expected to be well presented at all times.
As the sole engineer, you'll need to be a confident, forward-thinking problem solver. Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnosis are essential. You should also be confident with engines, generators and hydraulics. The budget on board is very healthy, and the engineer has their own credit card, so you will have the backing to keep the yacht running as it should. Also you'll have the support from a deck/engineer.
This is very much an all-round role. The engineer helps out in other departments, including bringing in the tenders, anchoring, and supporting the interior team when needed. We're looking for a true team player who enjoys getting stuck in.
Above all, the owners want someone who is in it for the long haul. If you're a capable, proactive engineer who takes pride in a well-run engine room and loves being part of a close crew, this is a great boat with great owners.
- Required Certification: Minimum Y3 or equivalent
- Required Experience: 2-3 years in the engine room with proven longevity. Second Engineers from a similar yacht looking to step up to a sole role will be considered.
- Required Visa: Schengen Visa (essential)
- Couples considered where the partner is a Chief Stewardess
