About Wajer

Wajer builds luxury yachts and delivers them worldwide. Our shipyards in Heeg and Lemmer operate at full capacity, building approximately 50 yachts per year in series, from the Wajer 38 to the 77. With Wajer Care, we ensure our owners can sail worry-free afterwards, fully aligned with our motto "Without a worry".

Owners of a Wajer choose their own colour — sometimes Porsche Yachting Blue, sometimes Vulcan Grey or a colour from the Bentley palette — and they want the paintwork on their yacht to be as crisp as on their car. For our yacht paint shop in Heeg, we are looking for an experienced yacht painter or car painter who sprays independently, including metallic. You will follow a colleague who is leaving. If you start quickly, they will pass the work on to you.

What you will do

You spray parts of our yachts, solid and metallic, in high gloss or satin finish. Hulls and other large parts go to an external paint shop; in Heeg you work on the parts, often in the metallic colour the owner chose.

You do everything yourself, from surface preparation to spraying and polishing. Surface preparation is more than half the work: sanding, degreasing, filling and sanding again. For each part, you determine yourself what surface preparation the substrate needs, in what order you work and when it can go into the spray booth. You inspect each part yourself before it goes back to production; a part that comes back holds up the finishing.

One day a set of parts is ready for the metallic colour the owner chose. The parts will later sit next to each other on the yacht, so you spray the entire set in one session from one batch. If the final inspection finds a speck in the clear coat, you wet sand it away and polish that spot.

Another day is mainly about surface preparation. You sand, degrease and fill a series of parts for the next build numbers. Only when the substrate is right do they go into the spray booth, and there you build up the coat until you can see yourself in it.

Your remit

You report to Stefan Lusthof, team leader Interior and Exterior. You align priorities with him; within those priorities you plan the spray work yourself.

You work together with a colleague who is newer to the trade and, like you, does surface preparation and spraying.

What you bring

You have been spraying for years and you enjoy it when a colour is exactly right. If you come from car bodywork repair, you will recognise much of the work: colour matching, tinting, metallic without clouds, transitions that no one can detect. At Wajer you do that on parts of yachts where the owner examines every surface closely. Experience with spot repairs is a nice-to-have, but not a requirement.

You think ahead: you look at the schedule to see what's coming, know how long a part takes and report in time if something is running late. You work cleanly and carefully, even when it's busy. You have a vocational diploma, for example in painting, car bodywork repair or yacht building, or you learned the trade in practice.

To prevent you from applying for nothing: we are looking for someone with at least three years' experience as a yacht painter or car painter, who sprays metallic independently and fully masters surface preparation.

What you can expect

  • A salary between €2,878 and €3,935 gross per month, depending on your experience, plus 8% holiday pay.
  • 39 hours per week; Friday your weekend starts at 15:15.
  • 27 holiday days and 6.5 ADV days.
  • CAO Metalektro and pension build-up with PME.
  • A travel expense allowance of €0.25 net per kilometre.
  • Support in obtaining your boating licences (KVB 1 and 2), so you can take to the water yourself.
  • Training via the Wajer Academy.
