Job Description

Vessel Details:

• A 55m private sailing yacht is currently recruiting for an experienced Rotational Engineer to join the vessel on a 10:10 rotation, offering a strong salary per month.

• The yacht operates a private programme and is preparing for an extensive three-year world-cruising itinerary.

• Currently undergoing a yard period, the yacht is planning to participate in several Caribbean regattas before embarking on an ambitious cruising programme through New York, Maine, the Northwest Passage, San Diego, Patagonia and eventually Cape Town.

• This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineer who enjoys the technical challenges of sailing yachts and is looking to join a long-term programme offering genuine worldwide exploration.

Position Overview:

• The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, operation and reliability of the yacht’s engineering systems, ensuring the vessel remains fully prepared for both owner trips and extended passages.

• With an extensive yard period currently underway, the position will involve supporting ongoing technical works and maintenance in preparation for the yacht’s return to active cruising.

• The yacht is particularly interested in candidates with a strong technical background in electronics, ideally supported by a relevant trade qualification or previous hands-on experience.

• Given the nature of the yacht’s upcoming itinerary, the successful candidate should be confident working independently, approaching technical challenges practically and maintaining engineering standards throughout extended periods of international cruising.

• This position would suit an Engineer who genuinely enjoys sailing, takes pride in their technical abilities and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to explore some particularly remote cruising destinations.

Requirements:

• You should have proven engineering experience onboard yachts, ideally with a background in large sailing yachts and international cruising programmes.

• A strong understanding of marine engineering systems, preventative maintenance and fault-finding is essential.

• Previous experience or a trade background in electronics would be particularly advantageous.

• A positive attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to work independently are important, particularly given the yacht’s ambitious long-term itinerary.

• Salary: very strong salary per month, with a potential salary review in the new year.

• Rotation: 10 weeks on/10 weeks off.

• Start date: 1st of December.
